  •   You are in > El Portal

El Portal is a village in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The village name is derived from the Spanish term for “the gate,” after two wooden gates that once stood as a gateway to the village. With a population of some 2,500 residents, El Portal is a small, diverse enclave between Miami Shores and Miami.

El Portal is known for its tidiness and well-maintained properties, with street after street of  single-story houses and nice lawns. Village officials promote the El Portal Beautification Project to motivate homeowners to maintain their homes and yards. The village was also designated as a bird sanctuary by the state more than 50 years ago, which means that the birds and trees cannot be harmed in any way.
